So You Didn't Keep Your New Years Resolution, Now What?

DONT PANIC– I had to tell myself this when I realized that I didn’t stick to my resolutions. I had to remind myself that nobody is perfect and instead of going into a state of depression, it would benefit more to move on! If you are a perfectionist, like I used to be, you might be beating yourself up about it. I know how it feels and I also know that doesn’t help. Sis, take a deep breath, access the situation, and work out a way to reach your goals.

MAKE A PLAN – Nothing can get accomplished if you don’t have a plan. I often realize that when I don’t reach my goals it’s because I didn’t set out the steps to get there. How will you get from A to B? If you want a new job, how will you get it? Is your resume updated? Are you qualified for a new job? Do you need to take some classes? Simply stating that you want a new job without a plan will not help you in the long run. When you fail to plan, you plan to fail.  It’s cliche but yet it still holds true.

“When you fail to plan, you plan to fail.”

SET MEASURABLE GOALS: Nothing makes me feel better than checking something off of my to-do list. In fact, since I was a child I’ve always had a list. I remember going through a box of things that belonged to me as a child. Amongst a plethora of dolls and notes that reeked of teenage angst, I found several to do list. One list had the very important work of painting my nails, picking out my school trip outfit, and calling my best friend. I laugh at these lists now but I know they were measurable goals that would get me to my final goal of finishing the school year.  In order to feel accomplished, it’s important to see how far you’ve come. While it’s fantastic to have an end goal, It’s important to see your progress. Set relevant, attainable mini goals and check them off as you go along.

START NOW–  Why wait until the new year? Get a jump start on your goals and give yourself some room and time to grow, learn, and win. While a new year is a great time to make a resolution, so is today.

How do you plan to accomplish those goals you didn’t get to this year? Are you currently making a plan? In an upcoming post, ill have the tools that I use to keep me on task and organized as I navigate 2019 with goal reaching in mind.
